Recognition Programs

AGC Foundation Awards

Annually, the AGC Foundation awards three different prizes; Klinger Research Award, Outstanding Educator Award and the Student Essay Competition.

Klinger Research Award

We are proud to support construction industry–related research through the William A. Klinger Research Award. Research topics are developed by the Foundation Board of Directors in cooperation with the Associated General Contractors of America's Construction Education Committee, and RFPs are sent to universities across the country for consideration.

The 2008 William A. Klinger Memorial Research Award was given to the Virginia Tech and is geared toward Solutions to Overcome Workforce Shortages in the Construction Industry. The objective of this research is to explore potential remedies for the existing and projected construction workforce shortage in the areas of recruitment and/or retention. Further emphasis should be placed on developing strategies and actions that can be implemented to overcome these shortages in both the short and long term future.

Currently, the AGC Foundation is accepting proposals for the 2009 William A. Klinger Memorial Research Award under the topic Strategies for Coping with Volatile Materials Costs. The objective of this research is to examine ways that contractors, suppliers and owners can adapt to these price shocks. Depending on the project type and relationship among parties, some methods used in recent year include price adjustment clauses (e.g., for diesel fuel, asphalt and steel), pre-buying of certain materials, and ad-hoc adjustments. To submit a proposal, please use the 2009 Request for Proposals Form and return by December 8, 2008.
