Building to LEED® for New ConstructionMore and more project owners are seeking LEED® certification for their buildings. AGC of America prepared this full-day course to provide an overview of the LEED® for New Construction rating system with a focus on the means and methods of construction. Attendees will gain a more complete understanding of their role on a LEED® project - helping them remain competitive in an increasingly green market. Attendees will learn about all of the prerequisites and credits within the six LEED® categories. Attendees will also learn which credits have major, moderate, or some impact on construction practices. The course details the ways those credits with a "Major Impact" will affect:
AGC of America based the course materials on research completed by the Construction Management Program at Michigan State University and funded by the AGC Education and Research Foundation. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) developed Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) green building rating systems for different applications. AGC of America's course materials focus on LEED® for New Construction v2.2. AGC of America is a registered USGBC Education Provider. This course curriculum has been reviewed for instructional design and subject matter and approved by the USGBC. Intended AudienceThis course will benefit individuals in the construction industry (general contractors, construction managers, and higher-tier subcontractors) currently working on or planning to work on LEED® projects. This course is especially helpful for those preparing to use the rating system for the first time. Course FormatThis course relies on a highly participatory learning environment including classroom presentations, in-class exercises, and instructor-led discussions. AGC chooses instructors with both LEED® and construction experience. Interested Chapters and MembersAGC of America developed this course for chapters and others to hold courses at the local level.
