Corrections
STP Unit 6: Understanding and Managing Project Cost
One user reported: On page 2–12, the Group Activity calls for measuring quantities for Building B, but detailed plans are only provided for Building A, which is a different size.
Answer: The second paragraph on page 2–12 says "you will need to measure the quantities with a scale" and on drawing sheet 2 the first note states that foundations, floors and slabs including structural bay sizes are the same as for Building A. Overall dimensions for Building B, C and D are provided. This is a classic example of drawings not being "what they used to be!" However, the information is there, you just have to dig it out.
On page 2–6–IG and RWS 2–1, the line item for Site Utilities is incorrect: 3,525,000 sq. ft. at $.20 per foot is $705,000, not $720,000 as listed.
Answer: Thanks for the catch. Somehow we just used the figure from the line item above it. Just goes to show how important it is in budgeting, to check and recheck your calc's. If you drop a decimal place or pick up an amount that's off by 10,000 or 100,000, could be catastrophic when you get the job.
On page 2-17, the students are referred to subcontractor bids on RWS 2–3. These are actually on RWS 2–4. RWS 2–3 was used earlier in the session.
Answer: Thanks for catching this one too.
Some of the drawing packages in the Participant's Manuals are not to scale.
Answer: An important lesson that should be learned early. With today's technology of electronic transmission of data, (faxes, scans, e-mail attachments, etc.) it is always a good idea to check the scale!
There are no Participant's Profile sheets in the Participant's Manuals or the Instructor's Guide.
Answer: The Participant's Profile sheets for Unit 6 can be found here.
These corrections will be made when the unit is published again. If you catch other errors in the unit, or stumble over text, please be sure to let us know at fieldsa@agc.org.
