AGC members perform a diverse range of projects including building construction for agencies such as the General Services Administration, military construction projects for the Department of Defense and water resources projects that benefit our nation's navigation and flood control. The Federal construction market is accountable for over $100 million worth of spending annually.

Hot Topics

  • E-Verify – On August 11, AGC submitted comments to the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Council  in response to a June 12 proposed rule that would implement Executive Order requiring the E-Verify system to check the status of new hires and others working on federal projects in the U.S. President Bush issued the Executive Order June 6, 2008.
  • False Claims Act - Congress is currently considering bipartisan legislation expanding the jurisdiction of the Federal False Claims Act. Visit the AGC Legislative Action Center to write your Member of Congress and let them know your concerns!
  • WRDA 2007 Implementation - AGC recently provided the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers policy recommendations.

Advocacy

AGC regularly engages with influential members of Congress and top officials with the federal agencies to implement AGC’s legislative and regulatory agenda. View AGC’s legislative and regulatory agenda for the 110th Congress here.

  • Infrastructure Investment. AGC is advocating for expanded investment in our nation’s waterways infrastructure and for improvements in our federal facilities, including military housing, border stations, courthouses and prisons.
  • Procurement Reform. Reform is necessary to improve delivery of construction services to the Federal government and procurement reform should recognize construction’s unique melding of industry sectors while ensuring the government is using the most cost-effective method of procurement. 

Coalitions

  • ARWG Coalition. AGC is a member of The Acquisition Reform Working Group (ARWG), the largest organization of the Government contracting professionals committed to improving the Federal acquisition process.
  • Water Resources Coalition. AGC is a co-chair and founding member of the Water Resources Coalition, an organization of groups from private industry committed to advocating for a comprehensive national water resources policy.

  • AGC Federal Contractors Conference. The conference is the premier event for contractors, service/suppliers, attorneys and other stakeholders engaged in the Federal market.
  • AGC Annual Convention. The convention offers numerous sessions with a strong focus on the Federal construction marker.
  • AGC Federal Construction Publications. Our guidebooks contain an excellent overview of the Federal contracting process and offers helpful information on topics such as: Locating Federal Work, Types of Federal Contracts, Small Business Concerns, Payment Procedures, Claims and Dispute Resolution, and so much more!

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

There are new changes to the TWIC program, which affects AGC members who perform work at ports, refineries, petrochemical plants, and other related Federal facilities. Additionally, 2008 AGC Federal Contractors Conference attendees had the opportunity to receive an overview of the TWIC program requirements.

Public-Private Partnerships

Public-Private Partnerships continue to acquire more consideration as a means of financing and addressing our nation's growing infrastructure deficit.
